Mari Rossi is one of new, talented generation of Russian opera singers. In 2007, she won high honors in two International competitions, after which she had a successful concert tour in the United States, participated in festivals and holiday concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as performing in other cities in Russia.
Currently, Mari Rossi is performing both solo and chamber concerts. She is heard regularly on Russian National Radio and on radio “Davidzon” (New York) and on the television programs of RTN (United States). She has a wide repertoire – from Bach to the music of twentieth century composers. In her performances, she includes Bach, Schubert, Bizet, Ponchielli, Puccini, Shaplin, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov.
In 2007, the producers Andrey Sidenko and Vladimir Andreyev released Mari Rossi’s CD entitled “Golden Classic” which has been warmly received by music critics in both Russia and the United States.
In Moscow, where she was born, Mari Rossi began to study voice at the age of eight. In 1987, she completed the musical academy of Ippolitov-Ivanov, and in 1995, the Gnesin musical academy in Moscow. She received further training at the Academy of Higher Music in Salzburg. From 1997-2001 she continued with individual instruction in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. In 2000, Mari Rossi participated in the international competition in Bussetto, Italy entitled “Verdivoices”. In 1992, she was one of the finalists (receiving a “diploma”) at the Johan Sebastian Bach competition in Leipzig, Germany. In 1993, she received a similar “diploma” at the vocal competition in Barcelona, Spain. Her voice has been heard on the stages of “Gevandhaus”, Germany, and the operatic theatres in Barcelona and Bussetto, at the White Hall in the Mozarteum in Salzburg, at the house of Reisers (The Netherlands) and in the grand concert hall in Kazan (Tatarstan). She has also toured Greece, Italy, Latvia and Lithuania. Of great importance to Mari Rossi was her participation in the concerts greeting Queen Elizabeth II of England in 1994, during the Queen’s visit to Moscow. Also of great importance to Mari Rossi was the 2007 concert sponsored by the Marice Liepa foundation for the visit of Prince Michael of Kent to Moscow, and her appearances at the “Manege” in Moscow.
Mari Rossi has performed leading operatic roles in Voronezh and Samara. Most important among the operatic roles in her repertoire are Tosca, in “Tosca”, Chio-Chio-San in “Madame Butterfly” and Turandot in “Turandot” (Puccini). Her Verdi roles include Desdemona in “Othello” Leonora in “Troubador” and Violetta in “La Traviata”, as well as the soprano solo in Verdi’s “Requiem”. Tchaikovsky roles include Lisa in “The Queen of Spades”, and Tatiana in “Eugene Onegin”.
In 2007-2008 will make her debuts on the operatic stages of Europe, as well as in the United States (including Carnegie Hall (New York) and in Washington, DC).
